Subversion and Trac

subversionThe Subversion server is now up and running with all the settings and permissions in place. The tests with a couple of temporary repositories went well and so did the transfer of the production repository from the local machine. It is now live and it has been configured to work with Trac as well.

On the other hand, apart from Trac’s code browsing capability, I’m not sure if we’ll be using it that much, but it’s a nice addition anyway :)

I’ve also configured a Dropbox client and while it has been running fine, the problem was that it was using up quite a bit of the server’s available memory, so it will most certainly not be active all the time, which is a pity :(

I guess tomorrow is the big day for the online svn repository. Wish us luck :)

Ubuntu, WordPress and Domains

ubuntu logoThere have been some changes to the server, the main site and the domains in the network in the last few days.

First of all, the server is now running Ubuntu instead of CentOS. It makes more sense as most (if not all) of the development machines now run Ubuntu either as the only OS or as a dual boot. It also makes administration easier not the least because of Webmin & Virtualmin tools which are now installed on the server. It’s a excellent tool – maybe not as graphical as LXAdmin, but very useful and powerful nevertheless.

The second, more obvious, change is that Drupal is gone from the main site. It has been replaced with WordPress as, once again, it makes things easier – this was practically the only Drupal installation on or off the network, while there are quite a few WP installations both on test and live sites.

And finally, there are some new domains in the network, while some of the old ones are no longer there. The new arrival is the MicroDevelop site. It’s still in development, but it should be an interesting and dynamic one and I’m looking forward to seeing it completed. The LaboMedica domain has moved to another host and OutFuse has been shut down.

I’m also planning to add a Subversion server, and maybe even a Trac installation, as the cons (mostly limited availability) of keeping the code repository on a local machine have recently started outweighing the pros (fast checkins & checkouts).
